Round Lake Area Park District starts projects

The Round Lake Area Park District is set to begin a playground project at Cranberry Lake Park, 115 Forest Glen Drive, Hainesville, and pavilion construction by the Robert W. Rolek Community Center, 814 Hart Road, Round Lake.

Park workers will take down the playground at Cranberry Lake Park the week of May 18. Then an installation company will come in and install a new playground. The old playground equipment will be donated to Kids Around the World, a nonprofit that refurbishes donated playground equipment to use in underserved communities abroad.

If the weather cooperates and the construction goes according to plan, the new playground at Cranberry Lake Park should be ready to use by the middle of June. This park was identified through the Park District's replacement program as needing all new equipment and safety surfacing. The District created an equipment replacement schedule to ensure all components meet today's safety and accessibility standards. The standard useful life of a playground is approximately 15 years. This current playground was built in 2004.

In addition, the park district is having two new pavilions installed by the Community Center. One pavilion will be built just north of the playground. The second pavilion will be built south of the main parking lot and east of the walking path that goes from the parking lot to Hart Road. Construction of the pavilions is expected to be finished by July.
