Mr. Marc Miller, Director of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, has recently announced the list of agencies that have received grants through the state's FY2010 Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant program. Amongst the 49 successful agencies receiving a grant was the Round Lake Area Park District. The grant is for an acquisition of property along a channel leading into Round Lake. The acquisition will be combined with a land donation to consolidate and develop a waterfront park in the area. This project is significant as it will be the first property the Round Lake Area Park District has owned that is directly connected to Round lake and/or its tributaries and will eventually permit public access to the lake. Executive Director Jeff Nehila noted, "Due to a long time resident donating the land and to the OSLAD program for the grant, we will be able to use the value of the donated land as our local match thus no district dollars will be utilized to acquire the entire parkland area." More information on the park's conceptual design will be released once the district has taken title to all of the properties.
